Shrines with sculptures were established to assure success in hunting and some figures were used by diviners as they sought to counteract the forces of witchcraft. Figures such as this were also used to inflict, to heal, and to protect. They would normally have fetish material attached to them to infuse them with power, these "fetish packets" would have been attached through the holes in the arms.
