These heavy stools of the Senufo from the Ivory Coast were not only used for sitting, but were also carried upside down with the laundry resting inside to the wash stream. Their weight keeps them anchored in the shallow water while the women beat clothing on them. This stool is intrcately carved with decoration showing detailed African art.
