Eastern Pende chiefs have special houses,called kibulu, designated foe the performance of ritual acts critical to the lineages over which they preside. Associated with the kibulu , the panya ngombe mask is more rare today than its counterparts, the pumbu or the kipoko. Panya Ngombe, like pumbu, is reserved only for the highest levels of chieftancy and appears in dress of a high chief at the time of circumcision during initiation.
