MALI TO MEMPHIS - Various Artists

MALI TO MEMPHIS follows the route of the blues from the heart of an ancient West African kingdom to the levees of the Mississippi. It features American musicians John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, Muddy Waters and Mali artists Habib Koite, Lobi Traore and Boubacar Traore among many others. Acoustic and slide guitars, ethnic and domestic percussion, harmonica and the omnipresent heartfelt lyrics, unique to this form of music, all combine for a great musical journey. A portion of the proceeds will go to he Music Maker Relief Foundation, Inc., which provides care for retired blues musicians, and to L' nstitut National des Arts, which donates instruments to underprivileged students of Malian music.
