JANUS FIGURE - SUKU, Dem. Rep. of Congo. Wood.

22.5" Tall

These Suku carvings were used during fertility ceremonies. This carving is double sided with the male on one side and female on the other. Stylistically, the sculptures are characterized by an enlarged head with an almond shaped mouth with incised teeth, a triangular nose and coffee bean eyes.
