African Healing Ceremony MaskTribe: Mgabani Country: Democratic Republic of Congo Material: Wood Size: 13.5"
The Mbagani belong to an instinct group, the Mpasu. They migrated to their present location from the east during the 16th Century. Mbagani
carvers are renown for their masks, which are characterized by their
pointed chin, triangular nose, protruding mouth and coffee bean eyes
all set under a domed forehead. Since Mbagani people do not have major initiation ceremonies, it is thought that these masks are related to healing ceremonies.
