BLACK IVORY SOUL, from Africa's musical crown jewel Angelique Kidjo, musically unites two continents - her native Benin and the exotic Brazilian island of Bahia. Produced by remixer extraordinaire Bill Laswell, this excursion in rhythm and groove, which incorporates jazz, funk, salsa and pop energy into the fray, builds off of the deep, expressive voice of Kidjo to create a vibrant, multi-ethnic tapestry of sound. Highlights include "Iwoya," a duet with folk-rock icon Dave Matthews (who she has toured with for the last couple of years)," the title track with its smooth R&B undercurrents and the Brazilian spiciness of "Refavela."
